William David “W.D.” “Buddy” Summer, Jr.

William David “W.D.” “Buddy” Summer, Jr. 92, passed away March 17, 2017. W.D. was born February 4th 1925 to the late W.D. and Mattie Berley Summer of Pomaria. He was predeceased by his son, Dickie; sisters; Willie Mae Eargle, Mary Mathis, Leola Johnston Eargle. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mertice Dickert Summer, daughter, Debbie (Foster) McLeod, a son, Randy (Lynn) Summer; five grandchildren: Summer (Chris) Tuten, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Goings and Kert, Jerod and Heath Summer; and great grands: Alex, Paxton, Blakely and Tyler; nieces and nephews.

W. D. graduated from Pomaria High School where he loved playing all sports, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a World War II veteran where he received four Bronze Stars and other decorations and citations while serving in the First Armored Division as a machine gunner and mortar crewman. W.D. was stationed in North Africa, Anzio Beach, France and Germany. He was a member of Cayce Masonic Lodge 380 and Cayce American Legion Post 130. As a tribute to his WWII military service, he earned the opportunity to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. W.D. was part owner of Summer Beverage Co. and retired as a beverage distributor. He treasured spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grands. He lived his life as a testament of faith and steadfast values that will carry on as a legacy to his family and friends

He was a charter member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church of Cayce. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Transfiguration Lutheran Church of Cayce with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
