Gamecocks Men beat Duke, Women win, both advance to Sweet 16
The Gamecocks women defeated Arizona State and the men defeated Duke 88-81.
The women won 71-68, Sunday night to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Gamecocks Men were led by SEC Player of the Year Sindarius Thornwell. He had 24 points and hit 9 of 12 from the free throw line, many in the clutch.
The men’s game was played in Greenville and it was USC’s second consecutive win in the NCAA tournament. The Gamecocks are a seven seed, and will play three-seed Baylor Friday for a chance to go to the Elite Eight. To win versus Duke, USC came back from a 7-point deficit at halftime.
In the women’s game, played in Columbia, A’ja Wilson scored to put the Gamecocks up with less than a minute to go in the game.
The Gamecocks trailed the Sun Devils by as much as 11 points in the third quarter.
Tyasha Harris finished with 20 points. A’ja Wilson had 21 and 11 rebounds.
