One of the top high school basketball players in the country is right in our backyard.

Gray Collegiate Academy, in West Columbia, is a No. 1 seed in the 2A S.C. High Playoffs. The War Eagles play Chesne in a home game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Gray is coached by Dion Bethea. The team is led by point guard Jalek Felton. Felton has been selected as one of 24 players nationally to play in the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic. The JBC is April 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Felton, a big Michael Jordan fan, described being selected to the JBC as “a dream come true.”

Felton is a University of North Carolina signee. His uncle, Raymond Felton is an NBA star, who also played at UNC, like Michael Jordan.

Raymond Felton was at the ceremony at Gray, last week, where Felton accepted his invitation to the Jordan Brand Classic.

Some of the top names ever of the NBA have played in the JBC, including: LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Kevin Durant.
