Indah Coffee Co., Circa Barber Shop coming to Cottontown
The redevelopment of 2238 Sumter St. in the Cottontown neighborhood has been launched by
the Cason Development Group has. The newest tenants are Indah Coffee Co. and Circa Barber Shop. Indah Coffee Co. Cason has also acquired 2222 Sumter St. and it will be redeveloped in the future.
The 12,000-square-foot building at 2238 Sumter St. was formerly the home of Dunn Electric Co. from 1945 until 2000. It will be the first retail location for Columbia-based Indah Coffee, that has been a part of Main Street’s Soda City Market in 2010.
Circa Barber Shop opened its first shop in the Arcade at 1332 Main St., in 2014. It will have two chairs in a storefront space at the front of the building.
Renovations to the building are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017, said Frank Cason, owner of Cason Development Group. The Montgomery Co. of Columbia is the general contractor and SEED Architecture is the architect. An additional retail space will be available in an attached space at the rear of the building. The former warehouse and loading dock could be configured for an outdoor patio and maybe a small music venue, Cason said.
Cason, who purchased both 2238 and 2222 Sumter from Joe W. “Bill” Dunn, plans to preserve many of the historical features of Dunn Electric, both inside and outside the building.
The 4,500-square-foot 2222 Sumter St. is available for lease; Cason has no immediate plans for the building.
Indah will occupy most of 2238 Sumter St. and will include a coffee café, a beer and wine bar, a cupping or coffee sipping/tasting room, conference and meeting spaces, and a roaster space unlike any other in town. The floorplan is being reconfigured so that the roastery will be visible from the café/bar and cupping room.
“Indah is thrilled to be moving into the Cottontown neighborhood and to be part of its revitalization. We have a vision for taking something old and breathing new life into it, making it beautiful,” said Stefanie Hauser, an Indah founder. “To us, coffee is more than a beverage. Coffee brings people together and enhances community. We hope that our new space together with Circa will capture this ideal and become a favorite in the city.”
Circa Barber Shop will offer haircuts for men and women, shaves and beard trims, and a line of hair grooming products produced exclusively for Circa.
Redevelopment is rampant in the Cottontown Neighborhood. The two Sumter Street properties are between Franklin and Jefferson streets and just around the corner from The War Mouth restaurant at 1209 Franklin St., which Cason Development Group developed in an old auto repair shop. A building at 1223 Franklin, just down block from The War Mouth, is under renovation for a brewery.
