No victory for Midlands teams on final day of Chick-fil-A Classic basketball tournament

The 2013 Chick-fil-A Classic Holiday Basketball Tournament has come to a close and four Midlands teams were still in action on the final day of play.

Classic I tournament bracket

Arlington Country Day School (Florida) 76, Keenan 68

The Raiders fell by eight points to the Apaches in the third-place game of the Classic I tournament bracket.

Freshman point guard Tariq Simmons had a big day, scoring 21 points for Keenan and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Senior point guard Marcus Stroman recorded 15 points for the Raiders.

Arlington Country Day School’s junior guard Ledarius Chester scored 21 points as well and was 9-of-13 from the field. LaDamion Keys recorded 14 points for the Apaches.

Carlisle (Virgina) 67, Spring Valley 46

The Chiefs of Carlisle High came away with the win in a consolation game against the Vikings.

Sophomore forward Jordan Bruner led the Vikings with 18 points and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. DeAngelo Ward and Noah Haper each recorded six points.

Carlisle sophomore forward Thon Maker tallied 20 points and was 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior point guard Caleb Johnson recorded eight points for Carlisle.

Classic II tournament bracket

Aquinas (Georgia) 54, Lower Richland 50

The game between the Diamond Hornets and the Fightin’ Irish was a close one, but Aquinas High came away with the win for the third-place game of the Classic II tournament bracket.

Senior guard Brandon Stroman led the Diamond Hornets with 21 points, while sophomore forward Kelvin Washington contributed eight points.

Aquinas senior guard Ahmed Hill tallied 22 points, followed by Shalom Alvarez with 18 points of his own. Alvarez was 9-of-9 from the field.

Mullins 59, Richland Northeast 58

The Cavaliers came up one point short against another South Carolina team in a consolation game in the Classic II tournament bracket.

Richland Northeast junior guard Breland Powe scored 18 points and was 6-of-12 form the field. Junior guard Davon Townsend recorded 12 points for the Cavaliers.

Mullins freshman point guard Jalek Felton had a big night scoring 31 points and was 10-of-17 from the field. Senior forward Malik McGill recorded 12 points.

Tournament Champions

Oak Hill High School in Virginia came away the Classic I Tournament champion after they beat Archbishop Carroll 70-61. Blanche Ely High School of Florida won the Classic II tournament championship with an 81-75 over South Pointe High School of Rock Hill.
