Registration open for Timberlake Youth Triathlon
If you’re looking for a competitive and fun activity for your kids, a chance is coming to get them involved while supporting a good cause.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is teaming up with with local businesses to sponsor the third-annual Timberlake Youth Triathlon on Aug. 24 at Timberlake Country Club in Chapin.
Parents can register their children online at www.active.com. Registration is limited to the first 100 to sign up and ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. No new entrants will be allowed on the day of the event.
The cost is $30 per participant, and all proceeds will benefit the WE CARE Center, which provides food and other assistance for those in need in the Chapin, Little Mountain, Peak, Pomeria and Prosperity communities.

During the triathlon, children 5 years old and younger will swim 10 meters, ride a bicycle for a quarter of a mile and run 100 yards.
Children ages 6 and 7 will swim 25 meters, bike one mile and run three-quarters of a mile.
Entrants ages 8 and 9 will swim 50 meters, ride a bicycle for three miles and run three-quarters of a mile.
Ten- and 11-year-old participants will swim 100 meters, bike three miles and run three-quarters of a mile. Twelve-year-olds will do the same but with an additional 50 meters of swimming.
